Robert J. Healey Jr.

Robert J. Healey, Jr., 72, of Scranton, died Thursday at Allied Skilled Nursing Center.

Born in Scranton son of the late Robert Sr. and Florence L. Ovens Healey, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Until his disability he worked as a book binder for the former Harper-Row. He was a member of the Asbury Unite Methodist Church, Scranton. Robert was fond of magic and was a practicing magician performing as “Mr. Dunce” at children and adult parties. He also built props for magic tricks and illusions. Robert was a longtime admirer of Rodney Dangerfield and his comedic work.

Surviving are his longtime companion Mary Bailey, Scranton; Mary’s six sons whom Robert considered his own James, Timmy, Stephen, Kevin, Ricky and Sean; Sisters Lousia Mateleska and husband Mike, Ocean City, MD, Brenda Hughes and husband Tom, Covington Twp.; four nieces, Michelle, Missy, Maria and Mindy; one nephew, Michael; three great-nieces, Krystal, Victoria and Alexandra; and a great nephew, Nicky.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:30am in the Corey Brian Strauch Services, LLC, funeral home location, 602 Birch Street, Scranton, PA 18505, with services by the Rev. Arthur Davis, pastor of Asbury Park United Methodist Church. Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.

A viewing will be held Monday from 5-8pm in the funeral home.
