Rita Margaret Stahl, 99, of Elmhurst Twp., passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home on Dec. 25, 2023.
She was born in Lake Ariel, Pa. on Sept. 28, 1924, the youngest of eight children of Anna and Leo Stahl.
Rita was known for her kind and gentle nature, as well as her love of reading and animals. While at St. Mary’s, she especially enjoyed receiving cards and letters from her family.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters (Joseph, Adrian, Marie, Gerard, Estelle (Babs), Catherine and Robert).
Rita attended Honesdale Catholic High School and later graduated from St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She had a fulfilling career as a registered nurse in Scranton and Hawaii.
Rita had worshipped at the Church of St. Paul in Scranton, and then attended weekly Mass at St. Mary’s Villa after moving there.
She will be laid to rest at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the cemetery’s lower chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Griffin Pond Clarks Summit Animal Shelter (967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411) or the Church of St. Paul in Scranton (1510 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18509).
