Dorothy Marie Gajkowski

Dorothy Marie Karwoski Gajkowski, 92, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 19th, surrounded by her family. A life-long resident of Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Bartley and Anna Yarosh Karwoski. She attended Scranton schools, worked for Profera’s Pizza and retired from work in dietary services at the Green Ridge Nursing Home.

Known as Dolly by those who love her, she was always strong, fearless and resilient. The center of her family, her home was a warm, welcoming place for family dinners, Scrabble games, love and laughter. When it came to food, Dolly always made the best, to which none other could duplicate or come close.

Dolly enjoyed spending time with her friends as an avid, talented bowler and as a member of Sloan Seniors.

Dolly’s pride and joy was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her source of happiness and delight. She loved hearing their stories and songs and they, in turn, loved to hear of her adventures, always making them laugh and smile.

Those who admire her strength and who will miss her dearly are her daughter Joan Miluski and husband, Robert, her son Joseph Gajkowski and wife, Peggy, and her son Mark Gajkowski, all of Scranton. Her grandchildren, Kristin Tratthen, Colleen Moulin, Lauren Gajkowski, Justine Manning and Kerstan Bonning, along with her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews will keep Dolly’s spirit alive in her stories and their happy memories of her.

Dolly is now reunited in Heaven with her late husband of 57 years Joseph Gajkowski who passed away thirteen years ago. She is also reunited with her brothers, Eddie and Frank Karwoski, and her sisters, Florence Palko and Joan Bendowski.

Friends may share their condolences with the family at Corey Brian Strauch Funeral Home, 602 Birch Street in Scranton, on Sunday, November 28th from 2 to 4. A mass will be held at Saint Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, 529 East Locust Street in Scranton, on Monday, November 29th at 10 am, followed by interment in the Saint Stanislaus Cemetery. The family respectfully asks that you wear a mask while attending the visitation and the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be sent to the Ronald McDonald House of Hershey, 745 West Governor Road, Hershey, PA 17033 or to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, PA 18411.
