Barbara Helen Jones Stahl

On February 4, Barbara Helen Jones Stahl, our mother and matriarch of our family entered into eternal rest. Barbara died surrounded by the love and warmth of her family at the Jewish Home of North East Pennsylvania, where she was a resident for 16 months. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John W. Stahl in 1994. They were married for 52 years. Together, they operated Stahl’s Service Station, Used Cars, and Body Shop. Barbara lived most of her life in South Scranton, moving to Clarks Summit in 2003.

Barbara was born on August 31, 1920 in Scranton, PA to Thomas and Julia Boston Jones.

Barbara was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She worked at the Hahnemann Hospital prior to her marriage. During World War II, while John was serving in the US Army, she was employed at Capitol Records.

Mom was the most unselfish, compassionate, generous, kind and understanding woman and that’s exactly what she taught her daughters, along with a hard work ethic. Mom loved helping others, giving to those in need, spending time with her family, traveling with her husband, visiting her daughter’s family in Georgia, and attending her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s events.

Mom’s hospitality is remembered by family and friends alike. She made others feel warm and welcome. She was considered by some to be a second mother. Mom had tireless energy and it could be seen in countless hours of volunteering for: Trinity United Church of Christ (her former church), Meals on Wheels, PTA, American Legion Auxiliary 948, The Morning Glories Quilting Club, Girl Scouts, and the Cancer and Heart Organizations to mention a few.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, but truly glowed with joy for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by two sisters: Edith Murphy and her husband Jerome, and Mary Shakett, and her two brothers Thomas and James Jones.

Barbara is survived by two daughters: Diann Brown, Clarks Summit with whom she resided and Joyce King and husband Patrick, Marietta, GA. Four grandchildren: Jessica Brown Ramirez and husband Joseph, Breinigsville, PA, Emily Brown Barchak and husband Ryan, Clarks Summit, Sabina Julia King and fiancé Parker Williams, Atlanta, GA, and Jon King, Marietta, GA. Three great grandchildren: Julia, Gabriel and Matthew Ramirez, Breinigsville, PA. and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Dr. Philip Boccogno, Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli, the Jewish Home of North East Pennsylvania and Hospice of Compassionate Care for the excellent care given to our mother. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

The Funeral will be Friday at 10:30 am in the Corey Brian Strauch Services, LLC, funeral home location, 602 Birch Street, Scranton, PA 18505. Service by Reverend Mark R. Terwilliger Pastor of Countryside Community Church, where Barbara is currently a member. She will be laid to rest in Cathedral Cemetery, alongside her beloved husband John.

A viewing will be held Thursday from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
