Marianne R. (Bugno) Nieroda, 82, a resident of Scranton, died Wednesday morning in the Geno Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. She is the wife of Joseph T. Nieroda.

Born in Scranton daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lesh) Bugno she was a 1952 graduate of West Scranton High School. She was a telephone operator with Bell Telephone and Verizion for several years until her retirement and was a member of the Bell Pioneers. She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish, Scranton. She was an avid reader, fantastic cook and an accomplished artist.

Surviving are a daughter Paula Giordano, and husband Mike, Dunmore; two sons Joseph Nieroda III, and wife Kelly, Newton, PA , Lawrence Nieroda, and wife Wei-Anne, Jersey City; sisters Helen Kirchner and Harriet Bennington both of Scranton; brothers Joseph Bugno, Old Forge, James Bugno, Lake Ariel; seven Grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:00am in St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave, Scranton, PA 18505, to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Entombment to follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Covington Twp. Friends are asked to go directly to church the morning of the Mass.

A Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5pm in the Corey Brian Strauch Services, LLC, funeral home location, 602 Birch Street, Scranton, Pa 18505.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org

    Paula,Nino and family,
    Eileen and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies for the passing of your mother and family matriarch. I remember meeting her at your wedding where she was nothing short of lovely. Eileen and I have both lost our moms so we know the sadness this brings.
