Joseph J. Spalluto

Joseph J. Spalluto, 94, a life long resident of Scranton, died Monday morning at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Daniel and Sarah Preno Spalluto he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended the University of Scranton. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a professional engineer with GSGSB of Clarks Summit. He was a member of the St. John Neumann Parish and attended Nativity of Our Lord Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II, fighting in Normandy, Northern France and the Battle of the Bulge.

Joseph was an avid golfer, skier and social member of the Elmhurst County Club. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time in his garden. His deck was his sanctuary, spending endless hours reading, pruning his flowers and holding court with his steady stream of visitors.

Surviving are two daughters Sheila M. Wilner and husband Ellis, Scranton, Barbara G. Rothrock and Charles Campbell, Stroudsburg; a son Daniel J. Spalluto and wife Linda, East Stroudsburg; grandchildren Thomas Mutchler and wife Juliet Cox, Natalie Rotherforth and husband Brian, Emily Scopelliti and husband Bryan, Melanie Cognetti and husband Matthew, Michael Vescovi and wife Casey, Stephanie Rothrock and Sarah Rothrock; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Grace M. Spalluto, two brothers Robert and Daniel Spalluto, a sister Dorothy Simone and a granddaughter Lori Crowder who died Sunday. (8-6-2017)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11:00am in St. John Neumann Parish, Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street, Scranton, PA 18505. Entombment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

A visitation will be held Monday from 10-11am in the church.

Arrangements entrusted to Corey Brian Strauch Services, funeral home location, 602 Birch Street Scranton.
