Ann A. Stevens

Ann A. Stevens, 88, of Scranton, passed away peacefully Friday surrounded by her family in the comfort of the Green Ridge Care Center with attending staff.

Ann’s stake to fame was raising two sons as a single parent in the West Side area of Scranton. Ann worked for 45 years as a Amalgamated Garment Worker, and many of those years were at Vermont Sportswear. She would also work nights as a waitress at various restaurants and still had the ability to keep good food on the table and have the cleanest home in the West Side. Working two jobs, raising her boys and cooking for them was Ann’s sacrifice.

Upon her retirement, Ann very much enjoyed the simple life. She liked sitting back in her easy chair, watching cooking shows, doing crossword puzzles and receiving visits from her grandchildren. She loved talking on the phone to her family and girlfriends, especially her best friend, Annie Bittenbender, whom she was longtime friends with for better than 50 years, something not found today. She also enjoyed talking with her niece, Rose Dowse, who affectionately referred to her as Aunt Nina.

Ann is survived by her sons, David and wife, Joanne, Dickson City; Donny and wife, Cheryl, Jefferson Twp.; three grandchildren, Brooke Anne, Jake Danna and Melanie; and one precious great-grandchild, Kalyn.

Before Ann passed from this world to the next, her last words to her family were; “I love you all.” She showed that by her hard work, honesty and loyalty to her sons.

Ann’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Thomas Majernick and his staff for the many years of compassionate care she received.

Per her wishes, the memorial services will be private at the convenience of the family in the St. Mary’s of the Visitation Church, Dickson City.
